The idea of net zero gained attention at the 2015 Paris Agreement on climate, with the goal for global emissions to reach net zero by 2050.

The new goal is an update to the company’s prior emissions targets, which included reducing absolute Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 90% and Scope 3 intensity by 70% by 2030, all on a 2015 baseline. Additionally, the absolute emissions reduction target does not include the use of carbon offsetting.
