Now in its new initiatives on cocoa and supply chain due diligence, our view is that the EU risks doubling down on failure. The cocoa trade journal, Confectionary News went further, and concluded that the LID has actually made the situation worse for smallholder farmers, who are seeing their incomes going down, not up.
