Victoria, B.C., is set to become one of the first Canadian municipalities to ban the use of fossil fuels for water and space heating in new developments. Last week, the city announced that it will require all new buildings be “zero carbon” by July 2025, five years ahead of provincial standards. “Buildings account for nearly half of all greenhouse gas pollution generated in the city,” Mayor Lisa Helps said in a press release.
