The UK’s Law Commission published reports on the issue in 2014 and 2017. The 2014 report distinguished between trustees’ ability to take ‘financial factors’ and ‘non-financial factors’ into account in their investment decision making. The paper notes that the UK Stewardship Code is “guidance and not a legal obligation”.
