Amazon: lung or intestine?

The preferred way of referring to the Amazon area is as a lung on a world scale.

The forest is designated as an emissions sink.

But... with the deforestation that has been observed for many decades, Brazil will have to compensate for the associated capacity to absorb emissions.

From lung to intestine! Sad reality.

The scientific community has warned that Brazil - due to deforestation - will not be able to reach the agreed upon targets for reducing emissions.

Could the Brazilian creativity  be used to reverse this sad scenario?
