Member-Client Highlight: PTC Demonstrates Next Generation Sustainability Leadership

Dave Duncan, PTC’s VP of Sustainability, presenting at Liveworx

Seven months ago, we were pleased to invite PTC, a global technology company headquartered in the Boston Seaport District, to join the Sustainable Business and Enterprise Roundtable (SBER) as a charter member. Now, PTC has taken its place as a leader not just in our shared-cost industry leadership service, but also in the wider corporate sustainability space. Under the direction of VP of Sustainability Dave Duncan, PTC’s ESG team has begun and made impressive progress in developing a robust program, including carbon footprint measurement and tracking, extensive public reporting efforts, and crafting a world-class decarbonization strategy. On May 16th, at Liveworx, PTC’s annual technology and innovation conference, CEO Jim Heppelmann took yet another step forward for the ambitious company, announcing PTC’s official commitment to setting Science-Based Targets, the leading framework for corporate decarbonization efforts.

During his own presentation at the conference, Dave delved into the new commitment in more detail. Focusing not just on Scope 1 and 2 but also Scope 3 emissions (from its value chain), PTC will set targets aligned with both SBTi’s near-term and long-term target requirements, which include reducing emissions through 2050 and subsequently removing any residual emissions through high-quality carbon removal offsets. PTC has two years to set their specific targets, and SR Inc looks forward to assisting them on this journey.

As a digital company, PTC has a unique ability to assist customers with their decarbonization journeys by creating products that eliminate waste, reduce energy, and innovate towards greater sustainability. PTC’s tagline – “Digital transforms physical” – perfectly describes this ‘superpower.’ Showcasing examples of using new technologies to measure and manage embodied carbon, Dave presented at Liveworx alongside Catherine Kniker, PTC’s EVP, Chief Strategy and Marketing Officer, about how companies can use design manufacturing to dramatically decrease their impact on the climate and the physical environment.

PTC is an excellent example of a company looking beyond just its own emissions footprint to its handprint, or how it can use its unique business capabilities to help others move towards sustainability. SR Inc is proud to empower PTC’s “Power to Create” approach to sustainability by assisting with decarbonization and energy strategies as it moves forward on its journey towards Net Zero.
