It feels almost quaint to remember way back when "80 by 50" — an 80 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 — was a bold goal for a company or government entity to make. It was seen by many as audacious, possibly unachievable, but still a necessary target. The "way back when" in this case seems to be around 2014.

Fort Chipewyan is an isolated community in Canada that is not connected to the main power grid. The community, which used to rely on diesel for power generation, is now home to the country’s largest community solar and storage microgrid project. Before the microgrid, diesel fuel was the source for all electricity production but since delivery of fuel depends on a shrinking window of winter ice road access, a new solution for electricity was needed.

Concerns raised over reliability of old-style VOC testing. Industry specialists working on contaminated land are being urged to use the new British Standard BS 10176 for soil sampling.
