Top 10 best performing wind farms for September: South Australia cleans up

Hornsdale wind farm in South Australia

South Australia has shown off its wind energy generation chops in the month of September, taking out all but three of the spots in the Top 10 list of best performing assets for the month of September.

While the latest round-up from Rystad Energy gives number one spot to Atmos Renewables’ Kiata wind farm in Victoria, with an impressive capacity factor of 47.8 per cent, South Australian projects fill the ranks from two to eight, as you can see in the chart below.

Kiata is followed by the Neoen/Atmos Renewables Hornsdale Stage 1 wind farm (44.1% CF) and Palisade Investment Partners/First State Super’s Snowtown Stage 2 South (42.4% CF).

Rystad senior renewables analyst David Dixon says September 2022 was actually a “subdued month” for wind power across Australia, with all of the nation’s assets combined generating 2462GWh for the month, down from 3052GWh in August.

Just one NSW wind farm makes the rankings this past month, with the BJCE Australia-owned Biala wind farm coming in at number nine. Victoria closes out the top ten with the Pacific Hydro Crowlands project.
