How scientists are liquifying and burying CO2 to fight the climate crisis

Carbon Down Under, a team of graduate students from the Southern Illinois University – Carbondale, is liquifying and burying carbon dioxide to fight climate change. Plants naturally absorb carbon dioxide – and it is still captured and stored within human-created waste of that plant material. Using a process called Oxidative Hydrothermal Dissolution (OHD), Carbon Down Under is able to convert that plant waste into a water-soluble liquid. This allows for long-term storage deep within the Earth, while also providing a potential nutrient source for essential microbial life.
