Australians invited to have their say on the future of water

The Australian Water Association (AWA) has teamed up with Arup to launch a national survey to better understand Australians’ perspectives on the challenges and issues for sustainable water management. This is an opportunity for all Australians to have their say on the future of our water. The survey will inform the water sector of what matters most to all Australians and help shape the direction of a sustainable water future.

“Water is our greatest natural resource — extreme weather, increasing populations and growing competition for water resources means that the sustainable management of our water is now more important than ever,” said Corinne Cheeseman, AWA Chief Executive.

“We know that how people and communities value and connect with water is varied, and the future of our sector depends on us being able to balance competing needs and solve complex challenges in a way that supports cohesive, equitable and inclusive engagement with communities.

“The Future of Water survey aims to provide insights into this national perspective and allow us to compare and contrast views across geographies, cultural backgrounds, industries and demographics.

“It will capture people’s connection to water; their concerns, their thoughts on the opportunities, and who they think is best placed to lead the response,” said Cheeseman.

The Future of Water survey will take about 15–30 minutes to complete and can be found here. The survey closes on Sunday, 12 June 2022.

For every response received to the survey, the AWA will donate $1 to WaterAid Australia (up to $3000).
