INDUSTRIAL EFFICIENCY AND DECARBONIZATION OFFICE
What Did the Industrial Efficiency and Decarbonization Office Accomplish in 2023?

February 5, 2024

In 2023, the U.S. Department of Energy Industrial Efficiency and Decarbonization Office (IEDO) helped drive innovation and advance the next-generation technologies required to realize our clean energy future while empowering the U.S. industrial sector to move toward cleaner and more efficient energy use.

The new and growing IEDO team accomplished this when they:

  • Announced new projects, 104 of them with $304 million in DOE opportunities across 40 states.

  • Launched new initiatives, involving millions of dollars, new training resources and videos, and over a dozen new energy-efficiency partners and cohorts each.

  • Provided specialized expertise and technical assistance, with 175 technical assistance requests in 154 U.S. sites.

  • Led departmentwide coordination to drive the innovation needed to decarbonize America's industrial sector and support small businesses.

  • Provided expert information and analysis to stakeholders across IEDO's research areas, decarbonizing and advancing the U.S. industrial sector.

From the early-stage research and development that helps turn ideas into impact to the pilot-scale demonstrations and deployment that accelerate the adoption of new technologies on the factory floor, IEDO's work in 2023 made big strides on the road to a decarbonized industrial sector.
